Who is a GEAR UP student?

Tates Creek High School GEAR UP students are ALL 9th grade students from these middle schools only: Crawford Middle, Leestown Middle, Tates Creek Middle and Winburn Middle.

What do GEAR UP students do/get?

These students get specialized services like: a paid membership to the YMCA Black Achievers program, college access information, college fieldtrips and much more.

What does the school get?

The school gets funds (this is a federal grant) to carry out a plan to provide specific services and have events that are targeted at hitting one or more of the 5 priority areas-see them below. Teachers get professional development opportunities. All 9th grade students can take part in activities like the PLAN test, college readiness events and they also benefit from the professional development that the teachers get.

The GUK Site Coordinator is at TCHS ½ day on Wednesdays in the Youth Service Center.

The GUK Site Liaison at TCHS is Angela Davis, Youth Service Center Director
