What is this Dubstep stuff?

New hip music!

It’s very noticeable that Dubstep has become a mainstream, and that more and more people are listening to daily. But where and why did it come about?

Dubstep is a new genre of music, and has become increasingly popular within the past 4 months. Although it is sometimes confused with techno and house music, it formally has the title of “Electronic Dance Music” that originated from South East London. It first came out to public in 1998, but at the beginning it was predominantly just to be dark and only grunge. As of just last year, the artists trying to incorporate modern with dubstep have taken out the dark and creepy and substitute it with funky and free rhythms. But nevertheless, all dubstep is experimental.

The songs are usually instrumental, with a lot of base and drums. The cool thing about dubstep is that it has taken many different kinds of music to put into their beats, such as hip-hop, techno,  heavy metal, and surprisingly, even classical. The producers and artists try to create mood changes in each mix, ranging on the spectrum from angry to happy. Nothing is predetermined, and you have no idea what is coming next throughout the song. What it is supposed to make you feel is that you are in an ocean, no island in sight. Once the song starts, the ocean takes you under. And whatever the song is, it tells you your emotions on getting out of the ocean. Some take it easy and go with the flow. Others are scared and intense, wanting out right then, and because of it make it jerky and unwilling.

You really get on edge while listening to dubstep, and I believe that people are listening to this more because it isn’t just some regular rap song that is just talking about girls, or some boring hip-hop song that has the same beat as another, or some country song that is about being sad, but rather, sometimes everyone just needs to get a fresh taste of original.
