If your teenager has a love of learning and is ready to be academically challenged then IB is the right choice! Tates Creek High School is honored  to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme School since August 2007. The IB Organization, which was founded in 1968, seeks to develop in students the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills they need to live in a rapidly globalizing world.  There are more than 1,049,000 IB students at 3,462 schools in 143 countries around the world.^[1] (International Baccalaureate Organization, 2005-2012)  Students who pursue the IB Diploma not only have a strong academic foundation but also have a solid work ethic, both traits highly sought after in today’s 21^st century society.  Our programme is one of the most rigorous and relevant College Prep Programmes available to high school students in Fayette County.   We encourage you to take a moment to review the IB@TC website.  Should you have any questions please contact

About IB ...

The IBO's Diploma Programme (DP) was created in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland.  It is a demanding pre-university course of study that leads to examinations.  It is designed for highly motivated secondary school students aged 16 to 19.

The programme was born of efforts to establish a common curriculum and university entry credential for students moving from one country to another.  International educators were motivated by practical considerations but also by an idealistic vision.  They believed that students should share an academic experience that would emphasize critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and exposure to a variety of points of view.

The programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world's leading universities.  The IBO has shown, over the course of 31 years, that students are well prepared for university work.  They are accepted by universities all over the world.

The programme is a comprehensive two-year international curriculum, for juniors and seniors in high school.  When combined with Tates Creek High School, Fayette County, and Kentucky classes, the IB courses allow students to fulfill all graduation requirements.
