Interested students should see their counselor for eligibility criteria, available courses, and an application.

The Learning Center

TLC is a voluntary program and applications can be picked up from your home school.  These applications are accepted year round.  Each school can nominate up to five students who they believe can benefit from this program.  A committee then reviews the applications and determines placement based on need and suitability.  The goal of the program is to address those students who just do not fit in a traditional high school.  TLC is a project based learning environment where students will use real world applications.  Transportation is provided to and from school, and the school hours are 9am to 4:10pm.

Lexington Day Treatment Center

The Lexington Day Treatment Center provides counseling services and an alternative academic program for youths, 13-17 years of age, who are experiencing difficulties at home, at school and/or those who are involved with the court system.  The program has four components: counseling, academics, family counseling, and parent education groups.  The program is in session year-round and follows the Fayette County School System calendar during the Fall and Spring semester.  To apply for this program please see your home school counselor.  For more information, contact (859) 246-4370.

Students who have dropped out of high school can earn their GED or General Education Development, which is a high school equivalency program.  This can assist adults in increasing their wage potential, job opportunities, or allow pursuits of furthering their education.  For additional information, call the GED Connection at 1-800-538-4433.

MLK is offering a program to students who need to earn their GED.  Students will report to MLK for 15 hours of instruction geared to assist students in passing the GED test.  Interested students should see their counselor for additional information.
